Inbound Team Leader

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Inbound Team Leader to oversee daily inbound operations at a fast‑paced distribution centre in Johannesburg. You will lead a warehouse team, ensuring accurate receiving, checking, put‑away and stock movement while maintaining high standards of efficiency and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and organise the inbound department team, monitoring productivity and performance.
• Support the Inbound Department Manager in driving operational excellence, quality and efficiency.
• Oversee inbound receiving, checking, stock processing, storage location replenishment and put‑away activities.
• Coordinate potential future inbound value‑added services (VAS) and ensure stock availability for downstream processes.
• Monitor service levels, compliance, cost performance and operational targets.
• Identify and escalate risks, delays, stock discrepancies or process issues promptly.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric essential; logistics, supply chain or related qualification advantageous.
• Proven experience in a distribution centre or warehouse inbound environment, preferably retail, fashion, FMCG or e‑commerce.
• Previous team‑leader or supervisory experience with strong people‑focused leadership.
• Sound knowledge of inbound warehouse processes (receiving, offloading, checking, sorting, quality control, put‑away, stock movement).
• Understanding of garment flow, stock accuracy and product handling in a high‑volume DC.
• Ability to monitor productivity, service levels, compliance and operational targets.
• Strong planning, coordination and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to work under pressure.
• Good knowledge of warehouse logistics standards, health and safety requirements and sustainability targets.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends or overtime as required.

Required skills

• Experience using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) for workflow tracking, stock visibility and reporting.
