About the role

The Western Cape Blood Service is seeking a purpose‑driven, strategic HR leader to manage end‑to‑end HR operations and partner closely with line managers. This senior position will shape workplace culture, ensure compliance, and support the organisation’s mission of saving lives.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor to line managers, delivering coaching, people solutions, and fostering a positive workplace culture that drives staff retention.
• Lead full‑cycle recruitment and selection, building talent pipelines, designing assessment frameworks, and ensuring competency profiling aligns with organisational needs.
• Oversee the employee lifecycle from onboarding through off‑boarding, managing HR records, payroll, and benefits administration with accuracy and timeliness.
• Handle complex employee‑relations matters, applying South African employment legislation and maintaining fairness and professionalism.
• Drive performance‑management rollout, coach managers on constructive conversations, and champion Employment‑Equity planning and compliance.
• Ensure HR policies meet statutory requirements (LRA, BCEA, EEA), manage statutory reporting, maintain audit readiness, and leverage HRIS analytics for governance.

Required profile

• Experienced senior HR Generalist / Business Partner with a proven track record in strategic HR leadership.
• Strategic, purpose‑driven mindset with strong advisory and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
