HR Manager

About the role

The HR Manager will support a medium‑to‑heavy mechanical engineering facility in KwaZulu‑Natal, ensuring that human‑resource practices align with South African labour legislation and the company’s operational needs. The role combines strategic workforce planning, employee engagement, and rigorous compliance within a technical manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with line managers to identify staffing needs, advertise vacancies, screen candidates, and manage the full recruitment cycle, including offer letters and onboarding.
• Maintain compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and sector‑specific regulations such as SEIFSA and MIBFA.
• Prepare and submit statutory reports (SARS EMP201, UIF returns, COIDA, EE and Skills submissions, annual EE reports) to the relevant authorities.
• Oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance, including risk management, HSE inductions, incident investigations, and emergency plan testing.
• Keep accurate employee records, contracts, and legal registers, and ensure all permits, audits, and inspections are up to date.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HR within a manufacturing or engineering setting, with strong knowledge of South African labour law.
• Ability to manage complex statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining legal registers and documentation.
• Strong communication skills to liaise with managers, employees, and external regulators.
