HR & IR Officer – Automotive Manufacturing

About the role

A leading automotive manufacturing organisation in Prospecton, Durban is looking for an experienced HR & IR Officer. The role provides comprehensive HR and employee‑relations support in a fast‑paced production environment, ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage recruitment, interviews, reference checks and onboarding for shop‑floor, technical and administrative positions.
• Act as liaison between management, employees and union representatives, handling disciplinary procedures, grievances, absenteeism and CCMA matters.
• Interpret and apply the MIBCO Main Agreement, preparing accurate submissions and returns.
• Implement and enforce HR policies, educate staff and managers, and assist with policy updates.
• Ensure compliance with the LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA and maintain up‑to‑date employee records.
• Prepare reports for the Department of Labour, CCMA, MIBCO and support HR audits.
• Coordinate COID/Injury‑on‑Duty claims and support OHSA compliance.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation and industrial relations.
• Hands‑on experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Excellent communication skills with management, staff and union representatives.
• Ability to manage multiple HR functions simultaneously.

Required skills

• Understanding of MIBCO, CCMA and COID processes.
• Familiarity with HR compliance reporting.
