About the role
The HR Assistant provides essential administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department of a mining operation. The role ensures smooth delivery of HR services, from recruitment to payroll, helping maintain a stable and productive workforce.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate employee files and HR records, both physical and electronic.
- Capture and update employee data in HR and payroll systems, ensuring confidentiality.
- Assist with recruitment administration, including job ads, interview scheduling, reference checks, and onboarding coordination.
- Capture and verify payroll inputs such as overtime, leave, and shift data; support time‑and‑attendance administration.
- Support training logistics, maintain competency records, and assist with training compliance reporting.
- Help administer disciplinary and grievance processes and keep related documentation.
- Support compliance with labour legislation, mine regulations, and internal HR policies; assist with HR reporting and audits.
- Provide first‑line HR assistance to employees, respond to routine queries, and support wellness and engagement initiatives.
Required profile
- Diploma or Certificate in Human Resources Management, Administration, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of HR administration experience, preferably in mining, construction, or heavy industry.
- Basic understanding of labour legislation and HR processes.
- Experience in a unionised environment and exposure to zinc or base‑metal mining is desirable.
Required skills
- Proficiency with HR information systems.
- Experience using payroll software and time‑and‑attendance systems.
- Strong computer literacy, especially MS Office.
