HR Assistant – Hospital Group (White River, Mpumalanga)

About the role

This position provides comprehensive administrative support to the Human Resources department of a specialised mental healthcare hospital. You will ensure efficient HR processes, maintain employee records, and help the team stay compliant with South African labour legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with recruitment administration, advertise vacancies, arrange interviews and coordinate reference checks.
• Prepare employment contracts, onboarding documentation and facilitate new‑employee inductions.
• Maintain accurate personnel files, update the HR Information System and generate regular HR reports.
• Support employee relations by preparing documentation for disciplinary hearings, grievances and performance management.
• Enter payroll data, verify timesheets and liaise with the payroll department on employee changes.
• Monitor leave balances, track attendance trends and manage annual, sick and family responsibility leave.
• Coordinate internal and external training programmes and keep training records up to date.
• Ensure compliance with the Labour Act, BCEA, Employment Equity reporting and assist with B‑BBEE initiatives.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) and a National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
• 2–3 years of HR administration experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
• Good knowledge of South African Labour Legislation and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
• Experience using an HR Information System (HRIS).
