Head of Transport – Business Development & Project Delivery

About the role

The Head of Transport (HOD) leads the transport department, driving business development, overseeing project delivery, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. This senior position works closely with sales, regional managers, and project teams to grow the transport business and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Support regional business development and marketing activities in collaboration with the sales team.
• Arrange customer visits and functions to promote the company and secure new contracts.
• Manage tender submissions, ensuring compliance with company policies and quality procedures.
• Oversee departmental administration, staffing, project registration, and risk analysis.
• Provide project support to office and regional managers, supervising design concepts, tender documentation, and contractor appointments.
• Monitor construction activities, including site inspections, scope changes, quality compliance, financial valuations, testing, commissioning, and project close‑out.
• Lead health and safety initiatives on sites and within the office.
• Mentor in‑training engineers and technologists, fostering continuous professional development.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and manage the department’s budget.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport or logistics project management and business development.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management abilities.
• Professional registration or willingness to maintain registration as an engineer/technologist.
• Ability to supervise design teams, prepare detailed reports, and manage tender processes.
• Commitment to health, safety, and quality standards throughout project lifecycles.
