Head of Social Performance

About the role

The Head of Social Performance will lead the Social Performance Strategy for Impala Rustenburg Operations, aligning it with the Group’s overall strategy and regulatory requirements. This senior role focuses on enhancing community relations, mitigating social risks, and delivering shared value through effective implementation of the Social and Labour Plan and related legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in shaping the Group’s Social Strategy and integrate IRO insights.
• Ensure compliance with Social and Labour Plan (SLP) guidelines, Mining Charter, MPRDA and BBBEE Act.
• Manage, consolidate and close gaps identified in DMPR audits.
• Lead the Social Performance department – performance management, development and discipline.
• Oversee design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community development projects.
• Facilitate multi‑stakeholder engagement sessions with local, traditional and municipal communities.
• Provide inputs to improve SLP processes based on on‑the‑ground insights.

Required profile

• Grade 12/NQF Level 4 (essential).
• Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Sociology, Humanities, Law, Environment, Finance, Economics, Urban Planning or Engineering (essential).
• Project Management qualification (desirable) and/or postgraduate degree in a developmental discipline.
• Minimum 10 years experience in mining or resources community development, with at least 4 years managing the function.
• Proven experience designing and managing social improvement projects and conducting social impact assessments.
• Extensive experience facilitating multi‑stakeholder engagement and working with local/municipal authorities.
