Head: Non-Motor & Claims Operations

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking an experienced leader to head its Non‑Motor and Claims Operations in Johannesburg, overseeing the full claims value chain from initial contact to final resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for Non‑Motor and Claims Operations aligned with retail claims objectives.
• Provide leadership to customer operations, regional claims branches, technical claims disciplines and specialised units, including FNOL, contact centre and Autoglass.
• Drive operational excellence by setting performance standards, monitoring service levels, productivity and turnaround‑time targets.
• Manage budgets, monitor cost drivers and implement measures to reduce claims leakage and mitigate risks.
• Champion transformation initiatives such as digitisation, automation, analytics and process optimisation.
• Lead, inspire and develop a national team, fostering a high‑performance, customer‑centric culture.
• Engage with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Distribution, Finance, Risk, Technology) and external partners (brokers, suppliers, assessors).

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience overseeing complex operational environments, preferably in insurance or financial services.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives and manage large, geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, cost control and risk mitigation.
• Deep understanding of Non‑Motor claims processes, technical disciplines and South African regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
