Head Gardener – Lead Iconic South African Garden

About the role

Babylonstoren is seeking a visionary Head Gardener to lead one of South Africa’s most iconic gardens. The role combines horticultural expertise with strong leadership to deliver exceptional guest experiences and maintain the garden’s world‑renowned standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and inspire a team of ~70 garden and farm staff.
• Oversee maintenance of garden and farm equipment.
• Design and manage fertilisation and integrated pest‑management programmes.
• Plan, implement and monitor irrigation and drainage systems.
• Develop new landscape and garden projects.
• Manage budgets responsibly and efficiently.
• Deliver workshops and presentations for visitors and staff.

Required profile

• Relevant academic qualification in horticulture or related field.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in horticulture or agriculture, with senior‑level management experience.
• Proven ability to lead a diverse team of around 70 employees.
• Strong organisational, planning and project‑management skills.
• Passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences.
• High energy, positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement.
