Head Bartender

About the role

The President Hotel is looking for an experienced Head Bartender with at least 3 years' experience as a Head Bartender, Senior Bartender or Bar Supervisor in a 4-star or 5-star hotel, luxury restaurant or high-volume hospitality setting. The role leads the bar team with a focus on service excellence, mixology and premium beverages.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the daily operation of the hotel bar and deliver consistently exceptional guest experiences
• Prepare and serve premium cocktails, wines, spirits and other beverages to the highest standards
• Lead, coach, motivate and develop the bar team, and ensure bartenders follow recipes, presentation standards and service procedures
• Create memorable guest interactions, recommend wines, spirits and cocktails, and drive beverage sales through upselling
• Maintain bar presentation, cleanliness and service standards, and assist with menu development, cocktail innovation and seasonal promotions
• Manage stock levels, ordering, stock counts, rotation and beverage controls; monitor portion control and minimise wastage
• Handle guest requests and service recovery, and ensure compliance with responsible alcohol service, HACCP and food safety standards
• Work closely with Restaurant Managers, F&B leadership, the kitchen and other hotel departments

Required profile

• Matric certificate (Grade 12); hospitality or F&B qualification advantageous
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Head Bartender, Senior Bartender or Bar Supervisor in a 4-star or 5-star hotel or luxury restaurant
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and coach a bar team
• Ability to work shifts, evenings, weekends and public holidays
• Professional grooming and presentation; South African ID; fully updated CV with contactable references

Required skills

• Excellent knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, premium spirits, wines, beers and current beverage trends
• Strong mixology skills with attention to quality, consistency and presentation
• Experience with Micros Simphony or a similar POS system is advantageous
• Understanding of stock control, beverage costing, ordering and stock rotation
• Knowledge of HACCP, hygiene and food safety standards
