Handyman – Hotel Maintenance (Cape Town)

About the role

The Handyman provides essential maintenance and repair services for the Cape Town Marriott Hotel. The role combines minor plumbing, general repairs, preventative maintenance and guest assistance to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment.

Key responsibilities

• Fix minor plumbing issues such as unclogging drains, plunging toilets and repairing leaky spigots.
• Perform miscellaneous repairs including tightening loose toilet seats, changing light bulbs and patching wall holes.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
• Respond to guest repair requests promptly and assist guests with disabilities as needed.
• Move, lift and carry objects up to 100 lb (e.g., A/C units, televisions) and handle items up to 50 lb without assistance.
• Follow all safety, security and hazardous‑material procedures, report hazards and complete required training.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend, twist, lift and carry up to 100 lb safely.
• Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation and a safety‑first mindset.
• Willingness to work full‑time onsite in a hotel environment.

Required skills

• Basic plumbing techniques.
• Minor carpentry/repair skills (light fixtures, wall patches).
• Use of lockout/tagout procedures.
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling of hazardous materials.
• Routine tool maintenance and inspection.
