Group Financial Controller

About the role

Our client, a specialist engineering services firm operating across South Africa and the wider African continent, is seeking a Group Financial Controller to lead financial reporting, budgeting and cash‑flow management for its diverse portfolio of infrastructure, energy and construction projects.

The role reports to senior executive management and is responsible for delivering accurate financial insights, ensuring statutory compliance and supporting strategic decision‑making across the group.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee monthly management reports, KPI dashboards and variance analysis.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts, monitoring performance against targets.
• Manage working capital, including debtors, creditors and cash conversion cycles.
• Maintain short‑ and medium‑term cash‑flow forecasts, including a detailed 13‑week forecast.
• Analyse project revenue, costs, margins, work‑in‑progress and profitability, flagging under‑performing projects.
• Oversee VAT, provisional tax, income tax and other statutory tax obligations, coordinating with external advisers.
• Review payroll processes, reconciliations and statutory deductions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate annual external audit, prepare schedules and manage auditor queries.
• Supervise month‑end and year‑end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
• Develop, implement and monitor internal financial controls, approval authorities and segregation of duties.
• Manage banking relationships, overdrafts and asset‑finance facilities, monitoring covenants and renewals.
• Administer guarantee facilities, tracking limits, utilisation and expiry dates.
