Graduate Mechanical Engineer – 2‑Year Programme

About the role

Kirby Group Engineering is seeking recently qualified honours‑level Mechanical Engineers for a two‑year structured graduate programme in South Africa. The role supports the delivery of engineering projects, working with a multi‑functional team and gaining exposure to design, construction and commissioning processes.

Key responsibilities

• Collate design documents and drawings and prepare coordinated drawings covering mechanical, electrical sprinkler, structural and architectural elements.
• Attend project handover and technical meetings, evaluate value‑engineering or cost‑saving opportunities.
• Review project design specifications, assess compliance of drawings and technical submittals.
• Assist in weekly progress reporting, process requisitions, generate purchase orders and verify receipt of equipment and materials on site.
• Liaise with the design team through the RFI system and understand commercial fundamentals such as profit plans and variation logs.
• Carry out document control using File Key, prepare method statements and risk assessments, and organise sub‑contractor work.
• Perform quality‑control inspections, snagging and walk‑downs of P&IDs and layout drawings.
• Populate test packs and track their progress.

Required profile

• Holds an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a recent graduate.
• Willing to rotate through different areas of the business and work both on‑site and in office environments.
• Motivated to develop design, construction and commissioning skills.
