Geotechnical Engineer – Ground Engineering Projects

About the role

Zutari’s Ground Engineering team is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to deliver innovative, safe foundations for infrastructure projects across Africa and the Middle East. The role combines technical analysis, design, and client interaction on a variety of sectors including energy, transport, water and built environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with senior geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists to provide analysis and design solutions.
• Deliver geotechnical deliverables on time, within scope and budget, while managing client expectations.
• Liaise with other design disciplines to ensure coordinated design documentation.
• Support business development by winning new work and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Travel periodically to project sites in South Africa, the rest of Africa and the Middle East.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering; registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) or clear evidence of registration progress.
• Minimum three years post‑graduate experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the transport sector.
• Solid understanding of soil and rock mechanics and experience in foundation, slope and ground improvement design.
• Ability to mentor junior geotechnical and geology staff.

Required skills

• Soil and rock mechanics analysis.
• Foundation and pile design, including settlement and bearing capacity assessment.
• Slope stability and earth pressure calculations.
• Use of geotechnical analysis software and latest design methods.
• Strong technical report writing and client communication.
