Geolab Supervisor – Geotechnical Laboratory

About the role

The Geolab Supervisor will lead the day‑to‑day operations of our geotechnical laboratory in Pretoria, ensuring that all soil testing activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency. The role supports project teams by delivering accurate test results and technical guidance for a variety of civil engineering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily laboratory operations, including triaxial, direct shear, consolidation and specific gravity testing.
• Verify that all testing follows applicable standards, procedures and quality requirements.
• Review, approve and sign‑off laboratory test reports.
• Train, mentor and manage laboratory technicians.
• Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance and procurement of consumables.
• Implement and monitor the laboratory quality management system and accreditation processes.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Track productivity, turnaround times and resource utilisation, driving continuous improvement.
• Liaise with engineers, project managers and clients regarding testing requirements and results.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in a geotechnical laboratory environment.
• At least 2 years in a supervisory or senior laboratory role.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical testing methods and quality management systems.
• Ability to interpret and review geotechnical test results.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
