General Worker – Roads & Stormwater (2 positions)

About the role

The Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking two General Workers to support roads and stormwater construction, maintenance and rehabilitation activities. The role involves physical labour on municipal roads, ensuring safety and cleanliness while following supervisory instructions.

Key responsibilities

• Load and off‑load materials and equipment, wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Place traffic signs to warn motorists during road works.
• Clean the work area using brooms and manual tools to maintain a tidy environment.
• Assist in the maintenance of tarred and gravel roads as well as stormwater services.
• Carry out any labour‑related tasks assigned by the supervisor, foreman or superintendent.
• Execute legal and safety instructions from supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
• Perform ad‑hoc tasks and duties as required by management.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 education (Grade 12 is an advantage).
• Valid C1 driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual capability required.
• Ability to follow and execute given instructions.
• Good physical health and ability to perform manual labour.
• At least one year of relevant experience in roads or stormwater construction/maintenance within a local government authority.
• Preference given to Midvaal residents.

What we offer

• Salary range: R 166 329 – R 182 280 per year (Level 13, Grade 8 Local Authority).
• Total compensation package inclusive of all benefits: R 307 561.08 per year.
