General Worker - Masiphumelele Research Office

About the role

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation (DTHF) is a registered non-profit focused on research, treatment, training and prevention of HIV and related infections in Southern Africa. It is hiring a permanent General Worker for its Masiphumelele research office. The main purpose of the position is to support the day-to-day running of the site through general cleaning, meal and refreshment preparation, stock monitoring and other operational duties.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare participant meals and refreshments on time according to site requirements.
• Clean and maintain offices, clinical areas, kitchens, bathrooms, meeting rooms and common areas.
• Keep the kitchen, food preparation and serving areas clean and hygienic.
• Monitor food, refreshment and cleaning stock and give the Operations Manager monthly restocking needs.
• Store and rotate food and consumables to minimise spoilage and wastage.
• Set up refreshments for visitors, staff meetings, training sessions and workshops.
• Help receive, unpack, move and store supplies and deliveries.
• Carry out general site support, housekeeping and basic caretaker duties.
• Report maintenance, safety, hygiene, security or stock issues to the line manager.
• Attend meetings and training and follow site procedures, health and safety rules and confidentiality expectations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification; entry-level.
• Previous experience in general cleaning, housekeeping and basic food preparation.
• Ability to cook and prepare meals for groups of people.
• Physical stamina for lifting, carrying, cleaning and moving supplies or equipment.
• Team player who can work independently, with good communication skills and reliability.
• Ability to work occasionally overtime or on weekends when needed.
• Preference for candidates living in Masiphumelele.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of food hygiene, safe food handling and cleaning standards.
• Ability to keep a clean and hygienic kitchen.
