General Practitioner (GP) Locum – Join Talent Pool

About the role

Discovery Health Care Services is building a talent pool of qualified General Practitioners to provide locum coverage across its onsite clinic network in South Africa. As a GP locum you will deliver comprehensive primary care on a flexible, assignment‑based basis, supporting the health needs of members, clients and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient consultations, examinations, diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up care.
• Prescribe and manage medication in line with clinical protocols and regulations.
• Coordinate referrals to specialists, allied health professionals, pathology, radiology and emergency services.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
• Deliver preventive health services, health risk assessments and wellness interventions.
• Manage chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma and HIV, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality and patient safety.
• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and compliance activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree and registration as a General Practitioner with the relevant health authority.
• Relevant experience in primary or community health care settings.
• Ability to work independently in a clinic environment and adapt to varying assignment durations and locations.
