Fruit Buyer

About the role

Our client, a South African exporter and international brand development company, is looking for a Fruit Buyer to join their team in Tyger Valley, Cape Town. The role focuses on procuring grapes, citrus and deciduous fruit for export, leveraging a strong network of local growers and packhouses.

Key responsibilities

• Purchase grapes, citrus and deciduous fruit, ensuring high quality and compliance with export standards.
• Source and maintain relationships with South African suppliers, farmers, and packhouses.
• Negotiate favourable terms and price agreements while managing claims and settlements.
• Prepare reports, presentations and market updates for Business Development Managers.
• Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with quality control teams to guarantee product standards across farms, packhouses and cold rooms.
• Oversee logistics, inventory levels and seasonal procurement programmes.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in fruit procurement, preferably grapes, citrus or deciduous.
• Strong knowledge of fruit seasonality, quality standards and export regulations.
• Extensive network within the South African fruit industry.
• Matric qualification; tertiary education advantageous.
• Resourceful, driven, proactive with excellent communication skills.
