Front Desk and Activation Intern

About the role

ALX Africa, a non-profit under the ALX Foundation offering tech skills training and career acceleration, is looking for a Front Desk and Activation Intern for its Johannesburg hub. Reporting to the Learning Community Experience Specialist, the intern acts as the main customer service point of contact for learners, alumni and visitors, blending front desk duties with learner support. The internship lasts 3 months, 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Greet learners, alumni, guests and visitors warmly and professionally
• Create, send and answer emails and walk-in inquiries, and manage sign-in registers and scheduling
• Maintain a clean, organised reception area and support tours and hub navigation
• Run weekly hub walkthroughs and stock takes, reporting issues and supply needs to the Learner Experience Specialist
• Support the planning and delivery of hub events, promote recruitment events and assist prospective learners
• Provide basic technical support for learners on the LMS and guide them on registration, onboarding and program processes
• Handle learner queries, direct them to the right staff and offer encouragement
• Support clerical tasks such as data entry and event setup, and prepare communication materials

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an ALX program or a graduate
• Strong academic performance and professional presentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English
• Reliable, punctual and able to stay calm under pressure
• Cultural sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills

Required skills

• Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and email
• Organisation, attention to detail and multitasking
• Preferably: problem-solving and a proactive approach
