Food & Beverage Service Expert (Barista) – Pre‑opening

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Food & Beverage Service Expert (Barista) to join the pre‑opening team of The Cape Town EDITION Hotel. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality coffee and food service while ensuring a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our guests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform opening and closing duties, including setting up supplies, cleaning equipment, and securing the premises.
• Take guest orders, record them in the MICROS POS system, and prepare coffee and food items to the hotel’s standards.
• Operate cash register, handle payments, provide change, and reconcile cash at the end of each shift.
• Maintain workstations, coffee carts, and dining areas clean and well‑stocked throughout service.
• Turn coffee machines and related appliances on and off at appropriate times and perform routine equipment checks.
• Follow all safety, security and hygiene policies, report incidents, and complete required training.
• Present a professional uniform and appearance, and deliver courteous guest service in line with brand standards.

Required profile

• Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods and lift objects up to 25 lb without assistance.
• Good visual acuity to read small print and inspect equipment for defects.
• Capability to work in confined or elevated spaces, navigate stairs and service ramps.
• Strong communication skills, using clear and professional language with guests and team members.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting company assets.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MICROS point‑of‑sale system.
• Cash handling and basic accounting procedures.
• Operation and cleaning of coffee machines and related equipment.
