Financial Controller – Remote (Real Estate)

About the role

This is a hands‑on, full‑time Financial Controller position supporting a property portfolio of over 1,300 residential units and $250M in assets. The role is remote and operates on EST hours, reporting directly to senior leadership and driving financial accuracy across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes for the entire real‑estate portfolio.
• Manage a remote accounting team, including offshore staff and external CPA partners.
• Produce accurate monthly owner reports for investors and stakeholders.
• Oversee multi‑entity, multi‑currency cash management in CAD and USD.
• Drive system migrations, notably from Hopem to Kompas and integration with Yardi for US operations.
• Ensure rent‑roll accuracy, supervise AR collections, and monitor property‑level P&L performance.
• Strengthen internal controls, approval workflows, and coordinate audit activities.
• Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and detailed variance analysis.
• Coordinate tax filings for both Canada and the United States.

Required profile

• CA(SA), ACCA, AGA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of direct real‑estate or property‑management accounting experience.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience in a professional environment.
• Proven ability to manage full month‑end close processes independently.
• Strong exposure to US GAAP and Canadian ASPE/IFRS reporting standards.
