Financial Controller

About the role

The company, a well‑established property organisation, is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance function. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and provide insights that support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop the accounting team while meeting all deadlines.
• Review journals, balance‑sheet reconciliations, VAT returns and general‑ledger allocations for accuracy.
• Assist with SARS VAT objections and appeals.
• Prepare and review audit files and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit.
• Analyse monthly financial results, investigate variances and unusual transactions.
• Review complex debtor transactions, including third‑party invoicing and bad‑debt write‑offs.
• Ensure monthly reconciliation of inter‑company loan accounts.
• Produce management accounts and value‑adding reports for senior management.
• Develop, implement and maintain financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Drive automation and process‑improvement initiatives.
• Partner with the Head of Finance and CFO on strategic finance projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a Financial Controller or similar leadership role.
• Proven experience managing and developing a finance team.
• Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting and financial management.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and numerical abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with MDA/Broll Online (highly advantageous).
