Financial Controller

About the role

Karongwe, a private game reserve and safari lodge group in Limpopo, is creating its first resident finance position. The Financial Controller will own stock, procurement, creditors, cash and revenue controls on‑site and provide the group with a clear, reliable view of lodge performance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage stock control: receiving, issuing, weekly high‑value counts, monthly full counts, variance analysis and cost of sales reconciliation.
• Oversee procurement: demand planning, purchase orders against budget, preferred‑supplier pricing and prevent unauthorised spend.
• Reconcile creditors: monthly supplier statement matching, three‑way matching and clean cut‑off.
• Handle cash and payments: lodge cash position, petty cash, daily cash‑up, banking and payment pack coding.
• Ensure revenue assurance: daily reconciliation of reservations, point‑of‑sale, bank and ledger; monitor debtors.
• Perform finance routine: bank capture, monthly reconciliations, journal preparation, balance‑sheet sign‑off and timely account delivery.
• Produce reporting: monthly lodge performance view covering cost of sales, occupancy, revenue trends and budget variances.
• Lead and develop the lodge finance and stock team, document procedures and support migration to a cloud accounting platform.

Required profile

• Mature, settled and self‑assured, able to work independently in a remote reserve.
• High integrity, trustworthy and comfortable raising uncomfortable issues.
• Strong backbone to enforce spend controls while maintaining good relationships.
• Hands‑on presence, visible in stores, on the floor and during cash‑up.
• Curious and analytical mindset, able to spot and resolve numerical anomalies.
• Calm under pressure, organised, resilient and content with on‑site living.
