Financial Accountant

About the role

Fruitways, a leading agri‑business in South Africa, is looking for a proactive Financial Accountant to join its dynamic team at the Marketing Office in Somerset West. You will report to the Group Financial Manager and work in a deadline‑driven environment, ensuring accurate financial reporting and control.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger, reconcile inter‑company loans and transactions, and investigate income‑statement variances.
• Prepare monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations and ensure compliance with company guidelines.
• Review and report exceptions for creditors, debtors, and bank reconciliations.
• Initiate, prepare and post standard and adjusting journal entries; distribute general‑ledger reports to operational staff.
• Assist in drafting management accounts, forecasting, and producing monthly management packs.
• Implement financial control processes to identify risk and improve efficiency.
• Check, approve and release EFT payments; verify petty‑cash and credit‑card transactions.
• Maintain documented process descriptions and evaluate them with management.
• Manage the Forward Exchange Contract policy for foreign‑currency fruit sales.
• Support ad‑hoc finance projects as required.

Required profile

• 3‑year diploma or degree in accounting (post‑graduate degree advantageous).
• Minimum three years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• SAICA/SAIPA articles or similar qualification advantageous.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and policies.
• Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
