Financial Accountant

About the role

Empire HR Solutions is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join its finance team in Durban. The role offers the opportunity to own the full accounting function, work in a fast‑paced environment, and provide valuable financial insights to senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Manage month‑end and year‑end accounting processes, ensuring general ledger integrity.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
• Monitor cash flow and assist with treasury management.
• Prepare VAT calculations and ensure compliance with South African tax legislation.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Maintain and improve internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
• Supervise and mentor finance team members.
• Liaise with auditors during annual audits and identify process improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Completed Articles (SAIPA, SAICA, CIMA or equivalent) advantageous.
• 5–7 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Proven ability to prepare management accounts independently.
• Strong experience with month‑end and year‑end reporting and internal controls.
• Experience in a multi‑branch organisation is a plus.
