Financial Accountant II

About the role

Capitec is seeking a motivated Financial Accountant II to ensure the accuracy of its financial records. You will be responsible for recording transactions, reviewing balance‑sheet reconciliations, and supporting the finance team with mentorship and guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Record financial transactions accurately and on time throughout each month.
• Execute month‑end entries according to the Month End Task List.
• Review and release purchase orders, ensuring VAT compliance, correct GL allocation and budget availability.
• Maintain accruals, contingencies, provisioning and prepaid schedules.
• Identify and act on opportunities to strengthen internal controls.
• Design and maintain effective accounting processes and systems.
• Review SAP master data regularly and keep it up‑to‑date.
• Perform month‑on‑month income‑statement expense analysis.
• Review monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations and resolve items promptly.
• Produce clear reports for cross‑functional teams.
• Guide and mentor team members in accounting best practices.
• Review kilometre, personnel claims and payment requisitions before they move to Accounts Payable.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Financial Accounting).
• Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles.
• 0–2 years post‑articles experience in financial accounting covering a wide range of functions.

Required skills

• SAP accounting module experience.
• Knowledge of IFRS and GAAP accounting principles.
• Understanding of South African tax, including VAT.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and numerical reasoning.
