Finance Internship Programme – 3 Year Training

About the role

The Kouga Local Municipality is offering a three‑year Finance Internship Programme designed to develop future finance professionals in the public sector. Interns will rotate through key finance functions, gaining hands‑on experience with municipal financial management, procurement and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with public sector procurement processes and ensure compliance with MFMA 56 of 2003 and related legislation.
• Support the application of Treasury Regulations and best‑practice financial controls.
• Participate in negotiation, planning and organising activities within the finance department.
• Monitor performance indicators and contribute to advanced report writing and analytical tasks.
• Engage with the Municipal Finance Management Programme (MFMP) to understand municipal finance cycles.

Required profile

• Relevant NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, Public Finance, Economics, Risk Management or Auditing.
• Age between 18 and 35 years.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure and with strong time‑management.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication skills and assertiveness.
• Proficiency in at least two official languages of the municipality (Afrikaans, English, Xhosa).

Required skills

• Excel (and other Microsoft Office applications).
• General computer literacy for finance‑related software.
