Faculty Librarian: Theology and Religion (Post Level 8)

About the role

The University of the Free State seeks a Faculty Librarian to support the Faculty of Theology and Religion. The role focuses on delivering specialised information literacy instruction, curating subject collections, and providing research consultation services to students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver information literacy sessions tailored to theology and religion programmes.
• Collaborate with faculty to embed library resources into curricula.
• Conduct research consultations covering theological databases, scholarly publishing and referencing tools.
• Curate, develop and maintain print and electronic collections in theology, religion and related fields.
• Manage access to subject‑specific databases, e‑journals and theological repositories.
• Provide research support such as literature searches, systematic reviews and bibliometric assistance.
• Develop and update online research guides and learning resources for the faculty.
• Engage in liaison activities to strengthen library‑faculty partnerships and promote academic integrity.

Required profile

• Ability to provide a detailed CV, copies of qualifications (with SAQA accreditation for foreign credentials), identity document and proof of current or recent employment.
