External Sales Representative - Paint & Building Materials

About the role

Our client, a well‑established supplier in the paint and building‑materials sector, is seeking a proactive External Sales Representative. You will work in the field, developing new business and nurturing existing relationships with contractors, developers and other construction professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and secure new construction projects and business opportunities.
• Build and grow a portfolio of contractor, developer and trade accounts.
• Open new customer accounts and actively expand the client base.
• Maintain existing relationships through regular site visits and after‑sales service.
• Provide product recommendations and technical guidance to clients.
• Achieve monthly sales and gross‑profit targets.
• Record all interactions, opportunities and pipeline activities in the CRM system.
• Submit weekly sales reports, forecasts and pipeline updates.
• Monitor sales performance, GP margins and market activity.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of external sales experience in paint, coatings or building‑materials.
• Proven track record in new‑business development and account acquisition.
• Experience selling to contractors, developers, builders or the construction industry.
• Strong negotiation, relationship‑building and closing abilities.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans with a valid driver’s licence.
• Highly self‑motivated, disciplined and able to work independently.
