External Moderator – Faculty of Humanities
Lyceum College
Job description
About the role
Lyceum College invites suitably qualified and experienced academic professionals to serve as External Moderators within its Faculty of Humanities. - Post-assessment: review samples of marked scripts across all grade bands; verify consistency, fairness and accuracy of marking; identify irregularities or academic integrity risks; recommend remarking where necessary.
- Mentorship: give constructive feedback to internal examiners and Module Leaders on assessment design, marking quality and academic rigour, and help build capacity in assessment practices.
- Reporting: submit detailed moderation reports on time, flag concerns about assessment quality or academic risk, and support institutional quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
Required profile
- Master's degree in a relevant Humanities field (essential).
- At least three years' experience in higher education teaching and assessment.
- Strong expertise in assessment design, marking and moderation.
- Solid understanding of CHE standards, NQF levels and quality assurance principles.
- Excellent academic writing, analytical and communication skills, and ability to evaluate impartially and constructively.
- Access to a laptop/desktop and reliable internet connection.
Added advantage: doctorate or studies towards one, experience moderating for private higher education institutions, experience in distance environments, prior work with public higher education institutions, and prior involvement in external quality assurance or accreditation.
Applications include a cover letter naming the thematic clusters and modules applied for, a full CV, copies of qualifications, academic transcripts, and a summary of previous moderation or assessment experience, sent by email to the college's Humanities office.
