External Account Manager – Government Sector

About the role

An ICT distribution organisation is seeking an External Account Manager to drive business growth in the Government sector by managing and developing strong relationships with key clients and resellers.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of assigned government customers and develop new business opportunities.
• Act as the primary point of contact for reseller account management and build long‑lasting relationships.
• Achieve individual and departmental revenue and gross profit targets.
• Maintain a robust sales pipeline, submit accurate forecasts and communicate progress to the Sales Manager.
• Travel monthly to meet resellers, conduct detailed account planning sessions and prepare comprehensive reports.

Required profile

• Matric with Mathematics and a relevant tertiary qualification.
• Minimum three years’ experience in external or key account management within the government sector.
• Proven track record of meeting sales targets and managing multiple accounts simultaneously.
• Own transport, valid driver’s licence and ability to work in high‑pressure environments.

Required skills

• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder‑influence abilities.
• Basic numerical calculation and time‑management skills.
