Executive Director – Local Economic Development & Town Planning

About the role

The Executive Director will lead the municipality’s directorate responsible for planning, human settlement and local economic development. This is a five‑year fixed‑term, performance‑based appointment based in Welkom.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the Spatial Development Framework and related town‑planning functions.
• Manage land‑use planning, human settlement administration and the implementation of development policies.
• Maintain and develop GIS databases to support spatial planning.
• Formulate and execute an economic‑development strategy that promotes job creation, investment and SMME growth.
• Coordinate development planning, LED initiatives and land‑use management across the municipality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Building Sciences, Architecture, Town and Regional Planning or Development Studies (or equivalent).
• Registration as a Professional Planner under the Planning Professions Act or as a Chartered Economist.
• Minimum five years of senior‑management experience in a related field.
• Certificate in Project Management and demonstrated competence in financial and supply‑chain management.

Required skills

• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) proficiency.
• Project management expertise.
• Financial management and budgeting.
• Supply‑chain management knowledge, including the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act.
• Town and spatial planning knowledge.

What we offer

• Annual remuneration package ranging from R 1 035 906 (minimum) to R 1 430 538 (maximum), with a mid‑point of R 1 233 222.
