ESG Project Manager – Energy & Infrastructure

About the role

Harmattan Renewables is expanding its ESG practice across Africa and seeks an ESG Project Manager to lead environmental and social due diligence for wind, solar and battery storage projects. Based in Johannesburg, you will own ESG workstreams, integrate requirements into project schedules and support the growth of the ESG pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Lead E&S due diligence and monitoring for renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate ESG activities with project teams, suppliers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with lender standards.
• Prepare client‑facing reports, project updates and ESG documentation.
• Contribute to the development of ESG frameworks, methodologies and risk assessments.
• Oversee inspection logistics and expedite ESG actions throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of ESG advisory experience, preferably in African markets.
• Strong knowledge of IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles and ESIA processes.
• Registered EAPESDD experience is essential.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, finance or a related field.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
