Entry-Level AI Engineer (Contract) – Gauteng/Hybrid

About the role

Our client is seeking an entry‑level AI Engineer to join their Data Science and Engineering team within a global IT hub. The role focuses on piloting AI use cases, connecting enterprise data to Large Language Models (LLMs), and supporting AI agent development to help business units scale AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and implementation of Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and AI agents using frameworks such as Copilot, LangGraph and Semantic Kernel.
• Assist in integrating AI components and LLM services with enterprise platforms like SAP, ServiceNow, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
• Develop and run test suites to evaluate output quality, latency, relevance and hallucinations.
• Participate in discovery sessions with business units to refine prompts, understand pain points and define success criteria for pilot projects.
• Help set up basic monitoring for model performance and data drift under senior guidance.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate with formal machine‑learning knowledge.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with Git version control.
• Willingness to relocate to Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn at personal cost.
• South African citizenship or residency preferred; valid work permits considered.
