Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead and coordinate Implats' engineering function, ensuring standards, safety, and performance across all technical services, utilities and transport. This senior position is responsible for strategic planning, compliance, and the continuous improvement of equipment and infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and oversee short-, medium- and long‑term engineering activities, including utilities, technical services and transport.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, safety and risk‑management requirements.
• Maintain equipment availability and engineering integrity, upholding professional standards.
• Introduce new technologies to improve performance of outdated assets.
• Develop engineering talent for succession planning and strategic staffing.
• Guide engineering staff to deliver high‑quality professional services to business units.
• Manage capital and operating costs within business‑plan parameters.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or NQF 7 equivalent.
• Mechanical and electrical qualifications with a government competency certificate.
• Completion of a Management/Leadership Development Programme (MMDP/SMDP).
• 5‑7 years operational experience, including 2 years in a recognised junior engineering programme.
• 3‑5 years managerial experience in hard‑rock mining.
• 3‑5 years project‑management experience.
• Knowledge of risk‑assessment methods and safety legislation in mining.
• Valid medical certificate or medically fit status.
