Engineering Designer – Retail Design & Manufacturing

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Designer to turn retail concepts into detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings for a well‑established retail design and manufacturing company in Durban.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D CAD models and complete drawing packs ready for manufacturing and installation.
• Design and detail components using materials such as wood, metal, plastics and finishes.
• Ensure designs are production‑ready, cost‑efficient and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
• Guide projects through the full product development lifecycle from concept to delivery.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior designers and draughtsmen.
• Collaborate with design, sales, production, electrical and site teams to deliver bespoke in‑store retail and shop‑fitting solutions.
• Participate in problem‑solving and value‑engineering to meet client and budget requirements.

Required profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree or diploma.
• 5–10+ years of experience in design and manufacturing environments.
• Experience in retail, shop‑fitting or bespoke manufacturing is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material selection.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
