Electronic Hardware Engineer - Earth Observation

About the role

Simera Sense, a provider of Earth observation camera solutions for the small satellite market, is looking for a highly motivated Electronic Hardware Engineer based in Somerset West, South Africa. The engineer designs, develops, tests and supports electronic hardware for aerospace and technology applications, reporting to the Lead Electro-Optical & Electronic Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Design, simulate and develop electronic hardware for space applications, including PCB design and routing, and create circuits that interface with multi-spectral, hyperspectral imagers, thermal sensors and radar systems.
• Work with software, mechanical and systems engineers on system integration, and take part in design reviews.
• Integrate hardware with other system components and run rigorous testing and validation against standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD-704.
• Maintain documentation of design processes, test results and system performance, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
• Keep up with advances in electronic hardware and propose improvements to existing systems.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and carry out safety and quality assessments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's honours degree or postgraduate diploma in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware design and development.
• Experience with satellite subsystems such as actuators, sensors and RF equipment, and with custom electronic subsystems.
• Recommended: Master's degree and experience in the Earth observation or space industry.
