Electronic Engineering Technician – Naval Base Durban

About the role

The South African Navy is seeking three Electronic Engineering Technicians to join the Production Grade A Fire Control Systems team at Naval Base Durban. This permanent public‑service position involves maintaining, repairing and testing electronic equipment that supports naval fire‑control capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of electronic systems and equipment.
• Perform functional and calibration testing in line with established standards.
• Interpret technical drawings, schematics and work dossiers to guide maintenance activities.
• Maintain accurate service records, log equipment failures and manage spare‑part ordering.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety Act and other legal safety requirements.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Engineering or a comparable qualification.
• At least three years of post‑qualification technical experience in electronic systems.
• Registered Professional Engineering Technician with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Valid driver’s licence and proficiency in spoken and written English.
