Electrician/Artisan – Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

The Ngqushwa Local Municipality is seeking a qualified Electrician/Artisan on a five‑year fixed‑term contract. The role involves maintaining and upgrading municipal electrical infrastructure across the municipality’s towns and rural areas.

Key responsibilities

• Perform day‑to‑day maintenance and electrical duties on municipal electrical infrastructure.
• Verify delivered materials against approved specifications and Bill of Quantities.
• Monitor and control installation and repairs of electrical systems in municipal buildings.
• Coordinate material inspections and kick‑off meetings with Eskom and other project stakeholders.
• Conduct pole‑to‑pole inspections, request outages, and oversee final inspections with Eskom.
• Provide guidance to the team on conductor cleaning, binding, strapping and stripping.
• Inspect works prior to commissioning and communicate test results and fault diagnoses to supervisors.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (recognised).
• 2–3 years experience in the electrical engineering field.
• Valid Trade Test Certificate.
• Computer literacy – proficient in Word and Excel.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance and installation.
