Electrical & Instrumentation CAD Designer – Mining EPCM Projects

About the role

A well‑established Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering firm based in Randburg, Johannesburg is looking for a skilled Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) CAD Designer to join its dynamic team. The role focuses on delivering accurate technical drawings for EPCM mining projects while collaborating closely with engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed Electrical and Instrumentation drawings such as single‑line diagrams, schematics, layout, and cable routing.
• Create 2D and 3D MV/LV cable sizing, earthing, lightning protection, and lighting designs (Relux or similar).
• Produce PLC panel layouts, I/O schedules, and instrumentation loop diagrams.
• Maintain drawing registers, document control, and ensure compliance with codes and standards.
• Assist engineers with design development, material take‑off, and perform site measurements for as‑built updates.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience as an E&I CAD Designer, preferably in a consulting environment for mining projects.
• Relevant technical qualification (Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or similar).
• Proven experience working for EPCM consultants on mining projects.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to interpret engineering mark‑ups, and good teamwork skills.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (essential).
• E‑Plan (advantage).
• Relux or similar lighting design software.
• MV/LV cable sizing and cable schedule preparation.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems.
