DTP Technician

About the role

Our client, a South African manufacturing business in branded apparel, printing and customisation, is seeking an experienced DTP Technician for its Print Department in Durban. The role is hands‑on and technically focused, ensuring that digital artwork is production‑ready and that colour and quality standards are met before press.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and prepare client and designer files for commercial printing, performing preflight checks for resolution, colour mode, fonts and layout.
• Manage colour profiles, assist with calibration and ensure colour consistency from proof to final output.
• Create digital or physical proofs, obtain approvals and implement corrections before full production.
• Set up print machinery for each job, monitor runs and provide technical support to operators.
• Troubleshoot artwork, file‑format, software and equipment issues, escalating complex problems when necessary.
• Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of prepress and print equipment.

Required profile

• Matric / NQF Level 4 (or equivalent) with proven experience in DTP, prepress or print production.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple jobs under tight deadlines.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with designers, coordinators and operators.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Experience with industry‑standard file formats (PDF, TIFF, EPS) and colour management.
• Familiarity with RIP / prepress workflow software such as FlexiSign, Caldera or Wasatch.
