Director of Rooms

About the role

Karen Tupper Recruitment is recruiting a Director of Rooms for a luxury hotel in the Western Cape. The role leads the Rooms Division, covering Front Office, Housekeeping and the Boutique shop, and requires a candidate who lives in Cape Town.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of Front Office, Housekeeping and the Boutique shop, ensuring coordination and service excellence.
• Manage recruitment, staffing, scheduling, training and performance management across the Rooms Division.
• Handle VIP guest requirements, monitor guest feedback and resolve complaints professionally.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, revenue management, payroll and expense control.
• Monitor occupancy, room rates and market trends to maximise revenue and profitability.
• Collaborate with other departments to maintain high guest satisfaction.
• Maintain standards of cleanliness, safety, security and service delivery, and implement performance improvements.
• Support strategic planning and provide senior operational leadership when required.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and luxury hospitality standards.

Required profile

• South African citizen residing in Cape Town.
• Matric / Grade 12 qualification; BTech or National Diploma in Hospitality Management.
• 2-4 years' experience in a comparable position in a luxury hotel.
• Proven managerial experience in Rooms Division and Operations within a 5-star establishment, including international work experience.
• Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communication.
• Flexibility for a 24-hour hospitality operation.

• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Opera and Micros.
• Budget management, financial reporting and spreadsheets.
• Leadership, decision-making, team management and problem-solving.
