Director of Audiences & Income (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The Horniman Museum and Gardens is seeking a strategic leader to cover a maternity leave as Director of Audiences & Income. This senior position will guide audience development, communications, fundraising and commercial activities during a period that includes the museum’s 125th anniversary and the launch of the Nature + Love project.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to commercial, digital, events programming, fundraising, membership, marketing, communications and visitor experience teams.
• Oversee and champion audience, brand, marketing, communications, digital and income‑generation strategies aligned with the Forward Plan.
• Lead brand positioning to extend and diversify audiences and revenue streams.
• Deliver integrated communications, fundraising, digital, visitor experience, commercial and events plans for the Nature + Love capital project.
• Contribute to senior management decision‑making, forward planning, budgeting and workforce wellbeing.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading successful audience‑growth and revenue‑generation campaigns in a cultural, heritage or visitor‑attraction organisation.
• Strong communication and influencing abilities, including negotiation, presenting and writing for diverse audiences.
• Excellent people‑management skills with the capacity to juggle multiple priorities at senior level.
