Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Werktuigkundige (TC 102)

About the role

Our client, a South African industrial services company, is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to support plant hire, mining services, mechanical support and industrial transportation operations. The role involves maintaining heavy‑duty diesel equipment in demanding industrial, mining and power generation environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on diesel equipment.
• Conduct fault‑finding and diagnostics using approved tools.
• Repair engines, transmissions, fuel injectors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and testing of new machinery.
• Ensure equipment availability, reliability and safe operation.
• Collaborate with supervisors and site management to plan and prioritise maintenance work.
• Complete job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records.
• Comply with SHEQ requirements and LOTO procedures while working in industrial, mining and power generation environments.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic with recognised Trade Test (Red Seal).
• Valid driver’s licence (Code 08 minimum; Code 10 advantageous).
• Safety certificates such as Working at Heights, Confined Spaces, First Aid and Fire Fighting (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience in construction, mining or power generation.
• Own reliable transport.

Required skills

• Maintenance and repair of diesel engines, transmissions and fuel injectors.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting.
• Fault diagnostics on CAT machinery (e.g., FEL966G, SEM660D, dozers, mobile graders, ADTs, rollers).
• Preventive maintenance planning and execution.
• Knowledge of SHEQ and LOTO safety procedures.
