Deputy Director – Communication Officer (Level 11)

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is seeking a Deputy Director to lead its Communication Service. This senior position (Level 11) will drive stakeholder engagement and promote the department’s programmes across public and private sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with strategic partners in both the public and private sectors to enhance service delivery for military veterans.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive stakeholder‑management strategy, including maintaining a stakeholder database and conducting analysis.
• Oversee the dissemination of accurate information about department programmes, activities and services.
• Facilitate inter‑governmental and community relations, and manage consultation and mobilisation platforms.
• Lead the sub‑directorate’s resource management and ensure continuous communication with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Senior Certificate and a three‑year degree or National Diploma in Communication Science, Public Relations, Social Science or Development Studies.
• Three to five years of relevant experience in communications or development communications at an assistant‑director level.
• Knowledge of the Military Veterans Act No 18 of 2011 and an understanding of veterans’ issues.
• Demonstrated management capability, research and benchmarking experience, and stakeholder‑relationship skills.
