Associate Communications Officer, SA-TIED (P-2)

About the role

UNU-WIDER, a United Nations University research institute, is hiring an Associate Communications Officer (P-2) for its Southern Africa – Towards Inclusive Economic Development (SA-TIED) programme, implemented in partnership with the National Treasury and the South African Revenue Service. The position is based in Pretoria and requires on-site presence, with some travel expected. It combines strategic communications, knowledge translation, policy engagement, monitoring of research uptake and support to learning and adaptive programme management.

Key responsibilities

• Help design, implement and refine the SA-TIED Research Uptake and Communications Strategy, map stakeholders and advise researchers on timing and approaches for communicating evidence
• Integrate communications and uptake considerations from project inception through dissemination, and turn complex economic research into accessible policy products such as briefs, summaries, explainers and multimedia content
• Draft speeches and talking points for senior management, and produce web, social media and media content
• Maintain a research uptake monitoring framework, track communications analytics and policy engagement metrics, and document examples of policy influence
• Build relationships with policymakers, partners, research institutions and media, coordinate policy dialogues and high-level meetings, and prepare briefing material
• Support annual work plans, manage communications budgets, coordinate communications consultants and service providers, and contribute to donor reporting
