Deputy Chief – VIP Protection Unit (All Regions)

About the role

The Deputy Chief will lead the VIP Protection Unit across all regions, overseeing close protection operations for high‑profile individuals and ensuring the safety of municipal assets.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and align key deliverables and outcomes for the VIP protection function.
• Oversee personnel and performance management of the unit.
• Prepare operating estimates and control expenditure.
• Implement plans, procedures, systems and controls related to risk analysis, loss control, incident investigation and protection.
• Direct operative requirements and procedures for core VIP protection activities.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Security Management or related field.
• PSIRA Registration certificate (Grade A) and no criminal record.
• Accredited VIP protection certificate from SAPS or a reputable security service provider.
• Firearm competency (handgun, rifle and shotgun) – military or business environment.
• Computer literacy and a valid code B/EB driver’s licence.
• Advanced driving capabilities certificate (preferred).
• Project management skills (advantageous).
• Minimum five years’ security management experience, including three years in a supervisory role managing close‑protection operations.
