Department Manager – Skills Development & Training

About the role

The Department Manager for Skills Development and Training will lead the department’s daily operations, project delivery and resource management within AIDC’s automotive supplier park. Reporting directly to the Executive: Industry Development, the role ensures alignment with AIDC’s strategic objectives and supports the growth of the South African automotive industry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain operational and strategic business plans in line with AIDC’s overall strategy.
• Identify new business opportunities, prepare proposals and engage stakeholders and funders.
• Oversee departmental risk registers, process improvements and compliance with policies.
• Lead project delivery, monitor performance data, manage budgets and mitigate project risks.
• Manage the Automotive Training Academy, ensuring financial sustainability and strategic positioning.
• Produce accurate and timely reports for auditing and stakeholder review.
• Supervise department staff, conduct performance planning, coaching and appraisal processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (e.g., BBA, BCom) or MBA; plus a Project Management qualification.
• Minimum 8 years of senior management experience in skills development, training, business analysis or related fields.
• Proven experience in risk management, project governance and corporate reporting.
• Ability to communicate in multiple South African official languages is advantageous.
• Own transport is required.
